Individuals

Lisa Chen is 59 and starting to think about retirement. She is the Senior Director of Human Resources at a major airline headquartered in Seattle. Throughout her career, she’s been known for her empathetic leadership style and dedication to building inclusive workplace cultures. Outside of work, Lisa is involved in multiple philanthropic activities. She volunteers for a local nonprofit, helping young mothers work toward their career aspirations, leaning on her own experience raising children while balancing a demanding job. Lisa is also passionate about the arts – she often attends gallery openings, collects local art and is a big supporter of art education. When she retires, she wants to create an impact with her wealth by combining her career experience and passions to start a scholarship fund for young mothers and artists who are facing financial challenges.

Lisa is in the process of looking for a new advisor that can help her optimize her investment strategy to achieve this. She feels her current advisor doesn’t prioritize her desire to better align her personal goals and values. She wants a true partner – one that sees her as a person with unique aspirations rather than just another client.

Dual-income couples

Karen Walsh is a 52-year-old property manager who has spent most of her life in the Pacific Northwest. She works from home, managing a portfolio of rental properties spread across multiple states. Her husband is a vice president at a major aviation company. They’re both avid golfers who love to travel on all kinds of adventures. They have two adult children, both of whom are married and starting their own families. One of their favorite things to do is to gather everyone together for fun family trips. Lately, they’ve been thinking a lot about the legacy they can leave their kids and grandkids someday.

They have an advisor, but they want someone who does more comprehensive planning. They need an advisor who can help them balance their investments for sustainability and growth, manage a complex tax management portfolio and build out a detailed legacy plan. Karen and her husband want to retire within 10 years, knowing they can go on all the adventures they want without worrying about their family legacy.

The Nature-Loving Scientist

Dr. Eva Ramirez is a 47-year-old environmental scientist based in Portland. A highly respected leader in her field, she’s spent her career advocating for policies to protect natural resources. She loves going on hikes with her wife and kids and enjoys the outdoors every chance she gets. Eva’s a big supporter of renewable energy, affordable housing and women-owned businesses. She grew up in a middle-class home, raised by parents who made sure their kids understood the value of hard work, community and giving back. She often mentors underrepresented women in STEM careers and would like to start a nonprofit that helps others like her do the same.

Eva is conscientious about money and saving, but hasn’t engaged a financial advisor before. She is looking for an advisor with a holistic approach to financial planning, someone she can stick with long term – who can help her invest responsibly in companies that genuinely care about the environment, save for her kids’ education and create a strategy to start that nonprofit.
